A: We have a specific resolution which states: ‘this Council does not condone the sale of what it considers to be racist, offensive and/or inappropriate items at our Artisan Market.’ We have not had sellers of real fur on the market and we would use this resolution to ensure that such requests were managed appropriately.
They have additionally stated:
I can confirm that we do not permit the sale of fur and we intend to strengthen the wording accordingly.
However, we are unaware of any official policy documents or guidelines to enforce this. The Council have been sent our Fur Free Markets policy.

Colchester Borough Council has the following markets: Colchester Market, they also license street traders.

A: Since the start of 2018 Colchester Market and Street Trading has banned real fur products from being sold using this existing rule:
12.2 No goods may be displayed or sold which in the opinion of the Markets & Street Trading Manager are inappropriate, dangerous or likely to cause offence to other traders or members of the public.
At the recent licencing committee (21st March) which considered changes to our existing Market Regulations it was decided that an inclusion of a specific rule banning the sale of fur products (submitted as rule 12.6 under prohibited items) needed more consideration – this rule will be developed further and submitted to the next committee meeting.
Street traders cannot sell the following restricted items:
Real fur goods including hat bobbles

A: Unfortunately there is no policy to prevent the sale of real fur.
However, in 2019 a motion was forwarded to the Policy and Resources Committee calling for a fur-free policy, meaning a fur ban is possible.

A: When deciding whether to approve traders and what they trade, the council considers the ethical nature of the products. These considerations include the source of the product, whether or not the fur is a by-product and clear signage stating the origin of the product to the public.
The council can advise that a new policy is currently being drafted, subject to approval, for Nottingham City Council markets to become Fur Free in the future.

A: LSD Promotions and Tamworth Borough Council are very committed to preventing the sale of fur on the markets. As far as we are aware there are no traders selling real fur in Tamworth.

A: We do not currently have an animal welfare charter or a policy that covers the sale of real fur products on our markets.
We would like to review this in the near future and would therefore be pleased to receive some information on suitable wording that could potentially be used to cover this.
In may 2018 we received this update:
I can confirm that our Markets Code of Practice for Traders has been updated to state that traders are not allowed to sell any real fur based products on our regular weekly markets in the District.
They have been invited to join the Fur Free Markets scheme but have not yet responded.

CJ’s Events Warwickshire is currently reviewing its policies. We’re pleased to have been approached by Respect For Animals to join the Fur Free Markets Scheme. Here at CJ’s Events Warwickshire we realise real fur is cruel and unnecessary. Although we encourage small independent businesses to sell exclusive products, we do not feel fur has a place at our markets or events and will work closely with traders to ensure no fur products are sold.

A: The DRAFT Trader handbook contains the following clause:
11.1 You must not sell stolen goods, counterfeit goods, unsafe goods, tobacco products (duty unpaid), unauthorised alcohol goods, offensive weapons, fireworks, legal highs, real fur, livestock and items of a pornographic or offensive nature. Any concerns or suspected breaches of this paragraph will be reported to Nottinghamshire Police and/or Trading Standards whichever is the most appropriate authority.
