A:  if there was a market on Council land, they would not be allowed to sell real fur.

However, we are unaware of any official policy documents or guidelines to enforce this.

A: I have asked TCM whether they have a policy in place and they have said they do not have a policy as such. None of the traders at New Watford Market are currently selling fur products according to TCM.

We would be happy to review any Animal Welfare Charters and policy wording you could provide. Although no fur is being sold at New Watford Market, TCM have said they would welcome any suggestion for policy wording or stall holder agreement wording.
The Council allows the sale of fur. They have asked to see our Fur Free Markets policy to consider.

A: The Council has received the following statement from Market Place Europe who runs the markets on festive days at Harrow Town Centre:

We do allow the sale of sheepskin products and also at Christmas we allow our trader from Lapland to sell Reindeer hide. This is herded and grazed just as we do with sheep. However we do not have the Lappish trader attending Harrow. We do not permit any other sales of animal hide or fur.

We did not receive any information regarding any of the other operators.

The Council allows the sale of fur. They have asked to see our Fur Free Markets policy to consider.

A: I have checked with our market operator and there have been no instances of any traders selling fur to date to their knowledge.  At present as long as traders are operating within the law they are permitted to trade.  Saunders Markets do not currently have a policy around fur but have asked to be made aware of information that is sent to us in respect of the same.
