Herefordshire Council has the following markets: Hereford Retail Market (Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday), Hereford produce and craft market (every Thursday, and first Saturday of each month), Hereford Christmas Markets (December)

Here is the Council’s response to our Freedom of Information request:

Q: Do you allow stall holders at your markets to sell real fur? (including small items such as knitted hats with fur bobbles, or key rings with fur trims etc.

A:  No

Please see extract from Market Trader agreement.

2.7:2 No firearms (real or imitation), air weapons, sheath knives, cut-throat razors, hunting / fighting knives, bows or crossbows may be available for sale, domestic cutlery is permitted.
The sale of any item that may be deemed to be of a harmful, objectionable or of an offensive nature, or is prohibited by current Acts of Parliament will not be permitted.

However, there is no information as to how this applies to fur.  They have asked for information on our Fur Free Markets scheme

Real fur is cruel and unnecessary. Please urge the Council to ban the sale of real fur on their markets and join the official Fur Free Markets scheme by contacting Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet member for Infastructure and Transport, email: John.Harrington@herefordshire.gov.uk
