A: ‘No’
However, we are unaware of any official policy documents or guidelines to enforce this.

Belfast City Council has the following markets: St George’s Market (owned and managed by BCC) Smithfield Market (owned and managed by BCC) The Continental Markets at Christmas and Spring (owned and contracted to Market Place Europe Limited).

A: Some stall holders sell fur, some stall holders sell antiques and vintage items so some fur may be included in these items. These would amount to a few small items. There is currently nothing in place to prohibit the sale of fur at the markets.
The Council allows the sale of fur.

A: On receipt of applications, categories of products are given not specific products eg. hot food, fruit veg, fish ,novelty items.

A: Stall holders are allowed to sell any item as long as this is lawful.
The Councils allow the sale of fur. They have asked to see our Fur Free Markets policy, but added: “Council cannot guarantee that this would be implemented or adopted.”

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has no policy in place with regards to the selling of real fur items at its Markets.
There never has been any fur based products sold at the above events, although fur is not on the ineligible items list on stallholder forms.

A: traders at Council markets do not sell any goods containing real fur; however there is currently no Council policy in place to prohibit the sale of real fur at its markets.

A: The following clause has been added to the T&C’s:
Derry City and Strabane District Council recognises that the United Kingdom has banned the farming of animals for their fur on ethical grounds since 2000 and the use of one of the most common traps used to catch animals for their fur has also been banned for many years.
Recognising that real fur is cruel and unnecessary, this Local Authority prohibits the selling of products containing real animal fur on council run markets (including seasonal and Christmas markets). All products wholly or partially made with real fur are covered by this ban and includes for example; fur coats, vintage fur, fur shawls, garments with fur trim, fur pompom hats, and fur accessories and trinkets.
They have also stated:
I wish to confirm that animal fur is not used on any of the Council’s Civic Regalia (ie) Mayor’s/Councillor/Aldermen robes. The robes are made from man-made synthetic fibres.
